Amazon Exits Stakes in AMD and IonQ, Portfolio Shifts Focus to Rivian
Amazon has liquidated its entire holdings in Advanced Micro Devices and quantum computing firm IonQ, according to a recent SEC filing. The tech giant previously held $118 million in AMD shares and $37.2 million in IonQ stock as of Q2 2025. No explanation was given for the divestment.
The move comes despite Amazon's strong Q3 performance, where cloud division AWS drove better-than-expected earnings. Rivian Automotive now dominates Amazon's investment portfolio, comprising 94.37% of its total holdings.
Market observers note the disposals occurred quietly before Amazon's earnings announcement. The company maintains significant exposure to emerging technologies through AWS, though its public equity strategy appears increasingly concentrated.
